How to extend the Visa in Indonesia
Indonesia is a huge country and has so much to offer. We realized fast that 30 days are not enough to explore this beautiful country. That’s why we wrote this guide “How to extend the Visa in Indonesia”.
Sometimes the Visa extension is not as straight forward as it could be. That’s the case for Indonesia.
Because of complexity we wrote this tutorial “Indonesia how to extend the Visa”.
You will get additional 30 days on top of your 30 days.
When you arrive in Indonesia
140 Countries receive a 30 days free entry Visa.
But if you plan to extend your Visa you have to get the Visa on arrival because the free entry Visa is not extendable.
You need to get your Visa on arrival at the desk before the Immigration check point. It costs 35$.
Where and when to extend the Visa in Indonesia
You can’t extend your Visa right away. You have to be in the country at least a week and then you have to go to the immigration (imigrasi) office which are located in every big city.
How to extend the Visa and what you need
You need the following things:
- Passport (at least 6 month valid)
- Copies of Passport picture page and stamp page
- Copies of the tickets in and out of Indonesia
- 355k IDR (about 21€)
The procedure takes two to three visits at the immigration office.
For example on Bali:
1st visit: You need to fill a form and hand over your passport.
2nd visit: They will take your fingerprints and a photo of you and you need to pay the fee.
3rd visit: You can pick up your passport.
This will take about a week because the Immigration office on Bali is really busy.
We went to Mataram (Lombok) and it was way faster:
1st visit: You need to fill a form and hand over your passport.
2nd visit (two days after the 1st visit) Morning: They will take your fingerprints and a photo of you and you need to pay the fee. Afternoon: You can pick up your passport.
As you see it takes in Mataram just three days.
How to speed it up aka the use of a Visa Agent
There are Visa Agents all over Indonesia who will help you to extend your visa.
They will charge you about 400k IDR (23€) for their service.
The procedure is quite simple: You hand them over your passport and the money and you just have to go to the Immigration office for the fingerprints and the photo.
please keep in mind: You hand over your passport to a stranger you don’t know. We recommend to ask local expats which Visa Agent they use.
Dress Code
Yes you read right, dress code. And this is a really important aspect in our “How to extend the Visa in Indonesia” guide.
For the Immigration office, you have to follow this dress code:
Men:
- long pants, no shorts
- covered your shoulders
- closed shoes
Women:
- covered your shoulders
- long pants or dress which reaches over the joints
Caution: You are not allowed to enter the immigration office if you don’t follow the dress code!
Enjoy your extended stay in Indonesia. 😉
